Une grève déclenchée par des syndicats et des groupes d’étudiants pour appuyer le parti de l’opposition se transforme en une manifestation de protestation contre le renvoi de cadres de la société pétrolière nationale du Venezuela. Le 11 avril 2002, environ 200 000 personnes se rendent au siège social de la pétrolière. Les manifestants empruntent l’autoroute Francisco-Fajardo et parcourent 11 kilomètres dans Caracas jusqu’au palais présidentiel, où ils se heurtent à une foule favorable au gouvernement. Vingt personnes sont tuées lors de l’affrontement. Plus tard dans la soirée, le président Hugo Chávez est victime d’un coup d’État. Il reprendra le pouvoir deux jours plus tard. Tali Hatuka est une architecte et urbaniste israélienne. Ses recherches portent sur la chorégraphie spatiale, rencontre du design urbain et des mouvements de protestation.

Whatever reservations I have about their cause, I am very impressed at the Tamil community’s ability to organize these protests and keep them going.I saw them marching down Spadina today, on their way to the waterfront. They were very organized and working with the police to make sure it all went smoothly.
